FOR A STRATEGIC LEADER WHO PROTECTS AND STRENGTHENS OUR COMMUNITIES
I will be a strong voice for better understanding and planning that enables us to take meaningful steps toward building resilience and security within our communities and throughout the nation. Whether the forces of climate change and extreme weather events, or the threats to our economy by changes in energy costs or Federal priorities that impact our National Laboratories and Military Bases, or the threat of terrorism or a natural pandemic event that could adversely impact the health of our communities, or the threat of failure of our existing infrastructure that is vital to both our economic prosperity and individual safety, or the growing threats of crime and addiction caused and enabled by the uncontrolled illegal drug trade in our communities, we here in New Mexico are vulnerable to being adversely impacted by them all.
Resilient communities have the ability to bounce back from disruptions in a sustainable way, and I will be a champion of resilient solutions that address problems systemically so that actions implemented locally have the maximum impact and effectiveness. Through our Laboratories and Universities, we have the technical capabilities and expertise to help address these problems for New Mexico as well as across the nation. I will be a strong advocate of extending scientific research to help create the tools and technologies we need to implement the right solutions. We can create a strong economic force of private companies working to implement solutions across the country. With close partnerships between the local, state and federal law enforcement and the social service community, we can be an example for the rest of the country and show how to effectively deal with the illegal drug trade and reduce the addiction problem.
